At the end of January all the project teams have now finished conducting the interviews and are in the last stages of analysing them. Most teams conducted more than the required 16 interviews with “third country nationals”, which will offer us a more detailed insight into the researched issues. Also, 4 out of the 6 partner countries have already conducted the focus groups and the experiences were very positive.

Focus group participants shared their opinions on current integration and migration policies, spoke about their own experiences in accessing the labour market in participant countries, and offered their recommendations for possible changes to relevant policies. In general, this format of involving the migrants actively into the project was very well received by all the participants. Our next step is to do a careful analysis of the focus groups and verbatim translations of the focus group transcripts into English. This is necessary for the next stage of comparative analysis since the focus groups in each partner country were conducted in a different language. The outputs of the fieldwork (all the field notes, transcripts and analyses of interviews and focus groups) are used to write the working paper 3, the work on which has already commenced.

Soon our second policy brief, dealing with current challenges to migrant integration and with a specific topical focus on xenophobia and racism, will be available on-line. In February 2010, the project partners will meet at the third PRIMTS workshop in Florence, Italy, where the results of the fieldwork part of our research will be discussed. Also, the workshop will be a perfect venue to discuss in more detail the issue of organising local seminars for the stakeholders, media and interested public, which will be an opportunity to disseminate the results of the project in each partner country. More information on the local seminars will be available on our website in due time.
